Height bar collapses onto container truck on VIP Road, driver escapes unhurt

A major accident was narrowly averted on VIP Road after a small container truck traveling from Ultadanga towards the airport collided with a safety height bar installed at the turn leading to the Dum Dum Park flyover. The impact caused the heavy iron height bar to snap and collapse onto the vehicle, extensively damaging the container. The driver escaped without serious injuries, while a motorcyclist travelling immediately behind the truck also narrowly avoided the accident.

The incident triggered heavy traffic congestion on the busy VIP Road, with long queues of vehicles forming shortly after the collision. The damaged container and the fallen iron structure blocked the roadway, disrupting the movement of traffic for a considerable period. The accident occurred at the approach to the Dum Dum Park flyover, where the height restriction barrier had been installed.

After receiving information about the incident, personnel from the Baguiati Traffic Guard and the local police reached the spot and initiated clearance operations. A crane was used to remove the collapsed height bar and the damaged container from the road. Traffic movement was restored within a short time after the obstruction was cleared.
